Milford Regional has been an early adopter of proven healthcare technologies for many decades, always looking to leverage new ways to deliver quality care with better patient outcomes. From the latest diagnostic equipment to advancements in surgery, cancer care and rehabilitation, Milford Regional has led the way with ongoing technology investments in a community healthcare setting.
oooIn 2013, Milford Regional was the first community hospital in the region to introduce robotic surgery and now, just five years later, it is leading the way with the next generation in robotic surgical systems and many other technological advancements.

Investing in the Next Generation da Vinci Xi® Robotic Surgical System
Milford Regional has acquired the next generation in robotic surgical systems, the da Vinci Xi. This new, top-of-the-line leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery replaces the da Vinci Si, which the Medical Center introduced to the community in 2013. Since then, hundreds of patients in our community have enjoyed the many benefits of robotic-assisted surgery: fewer and smaller incisions, less pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery. The Xi brings robotic-assisted surgery to a whole new level with technological advancements that can be used for more complex types of surgeries that would otherwise involve large-incision surgery, longer hospital stays and post-operative pain.
oooOne of the most exciting advances in the new Xi is the ability of the robotic arms and table to automatically adjust and move to virtually any angle and location the surgeon requires. With previous models, the robot would have to be redocked, or moved into the correct surgical position manually. This means a quicker and more seamless surgery. In addition, the Xi also gives surgeons the ability to complete tasks during surgery that were unavailable before, such as stapling within the abdomen and fluorescence imaging, which allows surgeons to see and assess anatomy better than with the naked eye. It also helps them assess blood flow to certain tissues.
oooThe list of special features with the new Xi also includes high-definition 3-D visualization, a magnified view of the body, greater dexterity and unmatched precision. Plus, this highly advanced system can make smaller incisions than its predecessor. Milford Regional’s Chair of Surgery Patrick McEnaney believes the expanded capabilities of the Xi will bring patients the very best in minimally invasive surgery.
oooMilford Regional’s expertise in robotic-assisted surgeries include bariatric, colorectal, general, gynecologic and urologic surgery. Experts in thoracic surgery will be joining in the upcoming year.

Expanded Ultrasound Services and New Vascular Lab
Milford Regional’s ultrasound services found a new home in diagnostic imaging with more space and greater privacy for patients in FY 2018. The new area expanded their footprint from two to four rooms, one of which is dedicated to vascular testing. Milford Regional expanded vascular services this past year with the acquisition of the Park Flow Lab, a top-of-the-line vascular system to perform arterial testing. This dedicated noninvasive vascular laboratory specializes in several tests that look for vascular diseases that may affect how well blood flows in the arteries and veins. The lab examines blood vessels throughout the body that feed major organs and tissue. These tests can help to diagnose many vascular conditions, including peripheral arterial disease (PAD), stroke and aneurysms.

MyHealthLink: Our New, Enhanced Patient Portal
Milford Regional is committed to providing patients with the necessary tools to take control of their own health information. As a result, a new, enhanced patient portal, known as MyHealthLink, was launched in 2018 that provides greater access to your pertinent health information than our former patient portal. Available both on desktop and through a new mobile app, MyHealthLink makes accessing health information across our healthcare system easier in many ways:
• Secure access for all health information
• Review laboratory and diagnostic tests results dating back to January 1, 2011
• Track medications and appointment information
• View discharge instructions
• Pay bills and view account details
• Receive hospital news.
